Joanna Concejo (1971) is a graphic designer, illustrator and author of visual books. She graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań. She prepared her diploma work under the supervision of professor Grzegorz Marszałek from Poster Studio I. Since 1998 she has been residing in Paris. In 2002 her works were exhibited at Busan Biennale in South Korea. Since 2003 her works have been included in many exhibitions, e.g. in Chelles (France), at The Plattform Gallery in Berlin and at The Public Gallery in Paris. After
achiving great success at The Bologna Children’s Book Fair in 2004, the main focus of her work shifted towards illustration.
Concejo is an author of illustrations for a dozen of books that have been published in Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland and Poland (The Smoke, Prince in a Pastry Shop, Little Red Riding
Hood, The Wild Swanns, When the Berries are Ripe and The Lost Soul). In 2013 she received the Book of the Year Award granted by the Polish section of IBBY for Prince in a Pastry Shop.
She did not only design illustratons for Marek Bieńczyk’s book, but she also created its structure as a fold-out book, with the elements reaching a total length of more than six metres. In 2018, Concejo received the Bologna Ragazzi Award for her illustrations for The Lost Soul by Olga Tokarczuk.
She regularly cooperates with Le Petit Atelier de Paris (product design, ceramics) and the school of illustration Fabbrica delle Favole (based in Macerata, Italy).
