(wykład odbędzie się w jęz. angielskim)

The Faculty of Painting and Drawing of the University of Arts in Poznań is delighted to announce the lecture of Ulrich Loock: Painting against Spectacle. Notes on the Work of Katharina Grosse

4.03.2021

If asked what can be expected from art or more specifically painting at a time of apparently limitless options, I would say: go against the spectacle, make painting that assumes the power of the spectacle to turn this power against itself. I plan to discuss the work of Katharina Grosse as such painting.

Ulrich Loock was born in 1953 in Braunschweig, Germany. He is an art critic, curator, and lecturer. From 1985 to 2010 he served as the director of Kunsthalle Bern, Museum of Art Lucerne, and as deputy director of Museu de Serralves in Porto, Portugal. He has organized many international exhibitions of artists belonging to his own generation, but also of older and younger artists. Additionally, he has edited monographic catalogues to accompany the shows and contributed to numerous publications. Currently Loock is based in Berlin.

‘The sealed studio’ talks
The lecture of Ulrich Loock is the second one from the series of talks initiated and moderated by Prof. Dominik Lejman, II studio painting course director organized by Faculty of Painting and Drawing, Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts, Poznań with support of Dr hab. Tomasz Kailitko, the dean of the Faculty of Painting and Drawing

The series of on-line lectures is dedicated to encounter with the critical thought of the most renowned contemporary theoreticians, art critics, curators and artists. At the time of the pandemic solitary confinement, we believe that with our effort the forced physical distance can be reshaped into the advantage of the greater proximity in exchange of ideas.

‘The sealed studio’ talks
Wystąpienie Ulricha Loocka jest drugim z cyklu wykladów on-line inicjowanych i moderowanych przez Prof. Dominika Lejmana, kierownika II pracowni malarstwa zorganizowanych przez Wydział Malarstwa i Rysunku Uniwersytetu Artystycznego im. Magdaleny Abakanowicz w Poznaniu pod opieką dziekana Wydziału Malarstwa Dr hab. Tomasza Kalitki
