Düsseldorf-based critic Georg Imdahl, born 1961, has been writing and reviewing contemporary art since more than thirty years – and is asking himself again and again about the criteria of critique. What is contemporary art? When does it appear as such? Which (kind of) history has contemporary art established? Can everything that is
produced today automatically be called “contemporary art“? Those and other questions Imdahl puts himself when visiting exhibitions. In his lecture he will talk about his experiences about critic as profession.

Prof. Georg Imdahl: historyk i krytyk sztuki; studiował także filozofię, historię i nauki polityczne. Doktorat o wczesnych tekstach Martina Heideggera. Od roku 1991 pisze teksty o sztuce współczesnej dla różnych czasopism, w tym głównie dla „Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” oraz magazynu online artnet. Wykładał m.in. na uczelniach w Duisburgu-Essen, Kolonii, Konstrancji, Bochum, Lipsku. Od roku 2011 jest profesorem na Akademii Sztuki w Münster.
