UAP Art Prize has been awarded through the New Image / New Look competition since 2012. The organizer of the event is the Faculty of Painting and Drawing of Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznan. The competition is addressed to students and graduates (up to three years after graduation) in the field of painting. The finalists’ works are presented during a collective exhibition, which is an overview of trends in young Polish painting. New Image / New Look is an excellent opportunity to look at various artistic strategies and attitudes towards image, medium and tradition. It is also an opportunity to confront young artists – often debutants – with both art critics and the audience. The competition also becomes a pretext for conversations and discussions about painting and its place in today’s field of art. It includes meetings, lectures and debates, also on the issue of artistic teaching.

So far, the jury of the competition has included renowned painters (including Rafał Bujnowski, Tomasz Ciecierski, Wojciech Leder, Dominik Lejman, Wojciech Łazarczyk, Jarosław Modzelewski, Dominika Kowynia, Jadwiga Sawicka, Irmina Staś, Paweł Susid, Małgorzata Szymankiewicz), curators, critics, gallerists and theoreticians who address the issues of broadly understood image in their texts (including Jadwiga Charzyńska, Jagna Domżalska, Agata Rodriguez, Marta Smolińska, Piotr Sarzyński, Stach Szabłowski). Among the finalists of the competition there are many young painters with an established position in the field of art, such as Karolina Jabłońska, Ewa Juszkiewicz, Krzysztof Mężyk, Jan Możdżyński, Adrian Kolerski, Agata Kus, Tomasz Kręcicki, Alicja Pakosz and Cyryl Polaczek. Competition presentations took place in the premises of UAP, Arsenał Municipal Gallery in Poznan, Słodownia Gallery in Stary Browar, MAC in Gorzów Wielkopolski and BWA in Piła. So far, the project partners have included: Renesans, Talens, BWA Piła and Contemporary Art and Bęc Zmiana companies. In the 12th edition of the competition, the mBank prize was awarded for the first time, which was the purchase of the winning work for the “m jak painting” collection.
