Today our hearts are in Dublin!

Together with the Honorary Consulate of Ireland in Poznan and the Irish Culture Foundation, the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznan took part in the Day of Ireland, organized by the Wielkopolska Voivodeship Office in Poznan on March 17, 2025.

It was a great opportunity to explore Irish culture and traditions. Within the frames of the programme a number of lectures, panel discussions and workshops were organized.

As part of the event, there was an extraordinary poster exhibition, prepared by students of the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznan, dedicated to Paweł Edmund Strzelecki, an outstanding Polish traveler, explorer and philanthropist, who connects the history of Poland and Ireland.

Born in Głuszyna near Poznan, Strzelecki was the first Pole to travel solo around the world for scientific purposes, conquering, among others, the highest peak in Australia and naming it Mount Kościuszko. His legacy is not only geographical achievements – during the Great Famine in Ireland (1845-1852) he saved thousands of children, organizing humanitarian aid and food for the most needy.

Students of the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznan are jointly searching for new ways of expression, examining non-obvious inspirations and interpretations, which resulted in an exhibition devoted to Strzelecki.
