Flash, red light. Rays running through, others spreading in space in single streams.
Flash, the title that first comes to mind.
A moment when you can see something, in this configuration, not another.
University. People gathering in studios, walking through corridors. Talking, passing each other without a word. Lectures, meetings, exhibitions. Faculty presentations, competitions, student exhibitions.
Creating a flickering image of the environment of young people, their aspirations, priorities, dreams. In such an important period for them, a time of trials, searching for their own identity, artistic path.
The “Flash” exhibition, held under the patronage of the Image Festival 2025, will present the works of eighteen students associated with various fields of study at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznan. Recommended by the teaching staff of the Faculty of Image and Interdisciplinary Activities, they will show individual examples of their activities, the effects of tasks carried out in individual studios and laboratories. The criteria for selecting people were different, so we can expect a heterogeneous exhibition in terms of content and aesthetics. And the Participants themselves? Perhaps they do not even know each other.
A review of a cross-sectional nature will probably leave one unsatisfied. However, the exhibition considered as a whole, being a confrontation of various attitudes, consisting of matching and incompatible elements, can trigger interesting reflections, point to unexpected leads of interpretation.
The moment in which it happens is important, the moment in which its meaning is fulfilled. Here and now, at the junction of the past and the unknown tomorrow, of which, perhaps, it is a prefiguration. In a time in which one would like to look more closely, to see oneself in it, oneself among others. As in a joint photograph, triggered by light, a flash that will so quickly become history.
