The exhibition staw(i)aj się explores what happens when we stop seeing the world as a collection of fixed forms and start thinking of it as something constantly in the making. It takes inspiration from the philosophy of “becoming” developed by French thinkers Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari – a way of understanding the world not through stable identities, but through relationships and flows. The central question is no longer “what is it?”, but rather “what is happening to it?” or “what is it connected to?”
The title itself contains a tension: on one hand, stawaj się (“become”) is an invitation to transform; on the other, stawiaj się (“stand your ground”) suggests presence and gentle resistance. The exhibition unfolds in the space between these two directions, weaving together intersecting threads of body, environment, and hope (for change).
The works presented use a variety of media – painting, ceramics, sculpture, installation, artistic intervention. What they share is an affinity for materials associated with impermanence and transience: wax, papier-mâché, canvas, bent rods, clay. These are processual, relational forms that don’t strive for permanence but remain open to transformation.
The exhibition offers a different kind of continuity – one rooted in process, in questioning rather than answering. It is a practice of tender resistance to the need for stability, control, or binary thinking. A space where change is not a threat, but a possibility.
A vital part of staw(i)aj się is the accompanying program: the opening event, actions, workshops, and conversations. These temporary moments are just as essential as the artworks themselves – they allow for connection, exchange, and being together.
The exhibition and all events are free and open to everyone.
