“The Path and the Paths” is a joint exhibition project by Monika Shaded and Marcin Lorenc.

The concept relates to the multidimensional experience of what a path is. How can this be understood? Above all, two aspects of the term seem most important here. The first is the path understood as the direction chosen by each of us (we often speak of a “life path”) – determined by individual decisions, possibilities, interests, and desires. We plan our path and imagine it – this is the ideal path. Behind us, however, we leave the real path, which never looks exactly as we initially envisioned it – a path marked by compromises, poor decisions, traps, but also moments where we managed to walk straight ahead.

Our decisions are influenced by the paths of history shaped by political, economic, and ecological circumstances – this is the second aspect of the idea. This reality, intruding into our lives, seems dehumanized, and therefore ruthless and irrational.

The exhibition will be a reflection of these realities – the path of an individual and the path of societies, or the path of our world understood on a global scale. It will also be a dialogue between two different artistic attitudes and languages of art, where a broadly understood image becomes both a sign and a metaphor – on the one hand lyrical and symbolic, on the other analytical and ironic.
