The conference, organized by a team of researchers from Germany and Poland as part of the project “(Un)mapping Infrastructures of Modern Art,” is dedicated to analyzing the infrastructures that supported the mobility of artists and the exhibition of modernism from a transnational perspective, from the 1940s to the 1990s. Special attention will be given to the role of institutions that financed international exchange – including between North America, Eastern and Western Europe – as well as artistic exchange between Poland, the GDR, and the FRG. A key topic will be the activities of the DAAD and the issue of the division of Germany and its influence on the formation of artistic networks.
The conference program includes 15 lectures, 6 of which will directly address artistic relations in East and West Germany. One presentation will discuss the presence of artists from Poland and the GDR in Denmark during the 1960s. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit the National Museum, the Arsenał Municipal Gallery, and the archive of Jarosław Kozłowski – highlighting the Polish aspects of international artistic infrastructures.
