I was told that the Soul Catcher, the one who catches souls, comes for us last. He crosses the threshold as expected, unlike Her. He enters with an invitation, perhaps tempted by a cup of tea. Then he takes us on a journey from which there is no return.
The windows are darkened. The tea must be black, as must the car and the suit. The face should be pale, the feet carefully washed. The stove has been burned out since yesterday. Silence. Silence is the most important thing. Handshakes can be omitted.
Soul Catchers are engaged in the broadly understood care of life (after death), becoming spirits that fill the cracks of everyday existence with unease.
The exhibition is a space for shared longing – for distant homes and for those built upon the foundations of our bones. At the same time, it serves as a “bracing” warning of what is to come… Soul Catchers is a solitary story, without an ending, without a moral. It tells of souls accidentally abandoned in the fervour of independence, but also of those that have made their home in the hearts of many.
