Do we stand firmly on the ground?
This question may be read metaphorically—as a reflection on our attitude toward life: do we act rationally, or do we give in to fantasy? It may also be understood literally, prompting us to consider our relationship with the Earth, the planet, and the ground beneath our feet.

The exhibition accompanies this year’s classes at the Intermedia Institute, focused on the biosphere. It inaugurates a year-long program of field trips, seminars, workshops, and micro- and macro-events. Following Lynn Margulis and James Lovelock, we conceive of the biosphere as an active, self-regulating “superorganism,” within which all beings exist as interdependent elements of a single planetary system.

Inspired by Josephine Berry’s concept of planetary realism, the exhibition approaches art as a tool for exercising the imagination in times of ecological crisis and uncertainty. Here, planetary realism becomes a practice of attentiveness—an effort to perceive and respond to the complex relationships connecting humans, other species, technologies, and the natural environment.

The student works selected through the open call engage with themes such as biodiversity, interspecies cooperation, natural processes, adaptation, and symbiosis, as well as practical activities including agriculture, gardening, and beekeeping. The notion of “planetary realism” also extends to explorations of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence, understood as elements of a larger, complex system regulating the biosphere.

The exhibition features students from the Intermedia Institute alongside guest participants from other faculties at UAP. The exhibition also presents collaborative works developed by first-year Intermedia students as part of the Fashion in Performance Art course led by Izabela Sitarska.

Rather than opening with a traditional vernissage, the exhibition unfolds over time, culminating in a collective finissage featuring live performances and audiovisual events.
