“There Has Never Been and There Never Will Be” presents bachelor’s and master’s diploma projects defended over the past three years at the Experimental Film Department of the Faculty of Animation and Experimental Film at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznan (UAP). The exhibition documents the experiences and condition of young artists, becoming a space for observing a generation that grew up within a therapeutic culture, a digitized world, and in times marked by the pandemic, the climate crisis, and a constant uncertainty about the future.
The selected ten works – films, animations, and installations – form a distinctive narrative about journeys, initiation, crisis, and transformation experienced in relation to nature, in solitude, or in confrontation with individual and collective memory. At times the journey becomes a metaphorical and liberating experience; at other moments it represents a real return to a point of origin.
The exhibition title, borrowed from one of the films presented – “Artemisia” by Sofiia Sadovnycha – becomes a starting point for reflection on the fleeting nature of moments of transformation: what was, what is, and what will never repeat itself in the same form.
