Institute of Intermedia
The exhibition “Planetary Realism” accompanies this year’s courses at the Institute of Intermedia, which revolve around the theme of the biosphere. Following Lynn Margulis and James Lovelock, we understand the biosphere as an active, self-regulating “superorganism,” in which all beings are closely interconnected and mutually influential parts of a planetary system.
The exhibition’s title is inspired by the book by Josephine Berry, an author who treats art as a tool for exercising the imagination in the struggle against apocalyptic end-of-the-world scenarios. As Berry writes in her book: “planetary realism is, above all, an effort invested in the art of perceiving and responding to everything that surrounds us.”
(As part of the exhibition, we also present the result of a collaborative project by first-year Intermedia students, created within the course *Fashion in Performance Art*, led by Izabela Sitarska).
