CREATIVE DESIGN

Mode of study:

  • full-time first-cycle studies (BA 3 years), 180 ECTS points

Description of the field of study:

The Creative Design major responds to the challenges of modern times, requiring an interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving and a broad perspective in design. It is not limited to narrowly profiled fields or predetermined procedures. The program combines various design issues, allowing students to explore different approaches and solutions. It is aimed at people who do not yet have specific interests at the initial stage of their studies, offering them a wide range of possibilities and inspirations in the field of design. Although the major is new, it is based on a strong tradition. Its foundation is the staff and existing majors taught in Polish, some of which have also been taught in English for many years as part of the STUDY IN ENGLISH program.

The program consists of classes and studios offered by the Departments of Set Design, Interior Design, Product Design and Fashion Design.

The Department of Stage Design comprises 3 set design studios: Studio of Interdisciplinary Set Design Projects, Stage Design Studio, Studio of Theatrical Phenomena. Each of them deals with a separate field of broadly understood set design. Students learn the principles of working with a director and the history of scenography during theoretical classes. Practical studios allow them to learn the full design process from initial concept sketches to implementation (renders, technical drawings, selection of materials, lighting design and documentation).

The Department of Fashion Design is composed also of 3 studios: Clothing Design Studio, Unique Fashion Design Studio and Theater Costume Studio. The program assumptions at the Department of Clothing also include subjects in the field of technology, modeling, clothing construction, and material science. The thematic proposals implemented in individual workshops at the Department of Clothing and in all years of study are perceived by students as important elements characterizing the quality and mode of preparation for professional work in the field of fashion, theater, and television.

The Department of Interior Design trains students in the design of interiors, exhibitions and outdoor spaces as a form of exhibition. The program provides comprehensive development of students’ skills. The core-curriculum consists of studios of interior or exhibition design selected by students and supplementary studios representing other design-related disciplines. The curriculum is complemented by specific theoretical knowledge. Moreover, students attend studios of drawing and other selected art studios, as well as humanities courses. The teaching process is aimed at preparing students for carrying out individual and group projects.

The curriculum of the Department of Product Design is based on a combination of design and fine arts education, which allows to develop creativity, imagination and sensitivity of our students. At the same time, they are exposed to a wide spectrum of different design techniques, thanks to the rich and open structure of the Faculty of Architecture and Design and the entire University. Students of Design confront their creative achievements with students of fine arts and other design-related degree programs. The Department of Design is composed of seven design studios and two laboratories. All members of the faculty are active designers that are willing to share their expertise with students. We also hold meetings with outstanding designers and representatives of companies. Students’ works are presented at prestigious exhibitions and fairs.
