Mode of study:
full-time second-cycle studies (MA 2 years), 120 ECTS credits
Description of the field of study:
The Master’s programme in Creative Design is a two-year course taught in English, aimed at graduates with a Bachelor’s degree in design or fine arts who wish to develop their own mature design practice. The programme combines advanced technical training with conceptual thinking, design research and critical reflection on the role of design in the contemporary world.
The programme does not impose a single specialisation. Its strength lies in its flexibility – you can build your study path around a chosen design area, such as interior design, spatial design, product design or visual identity, but you can also create an interdisciplinary programme that transcends the boundaries of individual disciplines. You earn over half of your ECTS credits through modules where you can choose your studio, which means that the programme is truly shaped around your interests and creative goals.
The first year of the course combines intensive design work with a comprehensive theoretical and technological foundation. You choose a Major Design Studio and a Complementary Design Studio from among the seven available studios. At the same time, you will take classes in critical theory, history of applied arts, interior design, universal design, sustainable materials and technologies, as well as advanced digital tools and 3D printing technologies. The programme is complemented by an advanced-level painting or drawing studio and a foreign language course. This year builds both technical and design skills, as well as the social, environmental and ethical awareness essential for responsible design practice.
The second year focuses on the completion of the final-year project. The centrepiece of the programme is the Diploma Studio, where you will develop your own project over two semesters under the supervision of a promoter. This is complemented by the Diploma Seminar, as well as modules on spatial design, entrepreneurship and investment processes, and portfolio and career strategies. You determine the topic, form and scope of your diploma project yourself, in consultation with your promoterr. The diploma examination consists of a public presentation and defence of your design project, together with the accompanying theoretical work.
Graduates of the Creative Design MA programme are awarded a Master’s degree and are prepared to work as freelance designers or within design communities, creative agencies, design studios and cultural institutions. The Master’s degree also opens the way to doctoral studies at art and design universities in Poland and abroad.
Throughout your studies, you will receive support from the programme coordinators and the International Office. You will learn from practising designers and artists who combine teaching with their own creative practice. The university provides access to art and design studios, computer labs, technical workshops, multimedia studios and exhibition spaces.
