Mode of study:
full-time second-cycle studies (MA 2 years), 120 ECTS credits
Description of the field of study:
The Master’s programme in Fine Arts is a two-year course taught in English, designed for graduates of Bachelor’s programmes who wish to deepen their artistic practice and develop a mature, individual creative language. The programme combines advanced technical training with critical reflection, artistic research and a broad theoretical perspective.
The first year of study lays a solid foundation for further independent creative work. Right from the start, you choose two studios – the Major Art Studio and the Complementary Art Studio – from a wide range of options including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, fine art printmaking, graphic design, intermedia, and artistic practice and research. At the same time, you undertake modules in critical theory, contemporary art history, curatorial practice, cultural management and advanced digital tools. The first-year programme also includes an advanced-level painting or drawing studio, a module on art, nature and the environment, as well as a foreign language course. This structure allows you to develop your chosen specialism whilst broadening your creative horizons.
The second year is dedicated to working on your final project. The programme centres around the Diploma Studio, where you will carry out your artistic project under the supervision of a tutor. This is complemented by the Diploma Seminar, as well as classes on exhibition design, multimedia in art, and portfolio and career strategies. During the third semester, a compulsory element is the Field Workshop – a unique opportunity to work outside the university and reflect on the relationship between art, space and the environment. The diploma examination consists of a public presentation and defence of your artistic work and the accompanying theoretical work before the diploma committee.
The programme’s flexibility is one of its cornerstones. You earn over half of your ECTS credits through modules where you can choose your studio, meaning you can consistently deepen your chosen specialisation or build an interdisciplinary practice combining various media and creative strategies. The programme does not impose a single path – you can organise your studies around a specific medium, but also around conceptual, social or technological issues, explored across various disciplines.
Graduates of the MA in Fine Arts programme are awarded a Master’s degree and are prepared to work independently as artists, curators, and organisers of artistic and cultural projects, as well as to work in cultural institutions or pursue doctoral studies at the Doctoral School.
Throughout your studies, you can count on the support of the programme coordinators and the International Office. You will study under the guidance of experienced tutors – artists who are actively involved in the Polish and international art scene. The university provides access to art studios, multimedia laboratories, computer labs, technical workshops and exhibition spaces.
